No reason to be afraid to trust yourself

Trust-Yourself.jpg

Yesterday I got one of the best advice I’ve ever had:„I see you don’t know what you want. But trust yourself.“

I was thinking so much about it and I realized that I really, first of all, don’t know what I want. They say you need to have an aim in this life. We are waiting or seeking for something so material – diploma, career opportunities, driving license, holidays, we are interested in learning something, but what we feel after we do? Do we feel better, smarter, more beautiful, more intelligent? Do we increase our overall self esteem or self confidence in this way? Or do we feel even bigger emptiness? Cause I do.

Despite all material stuff, that I still need and I am sure I will need for the rest of my life, I am looking for something more. Just who can answer, what is this I am looking for? Some feelings, adventures, experience, people, opportunities. I need to realize something. I am sure there is more than material world and typical rules.

How to do this? How to find something, if you even don’tknow what you are looking for? Trust yourself. We always do something, what is right to do, even without thinking if this is what we want. We work every day from…till, we make the same road every day, we eat the same breakfast every day, we are going to sleep at the same time every evening and we are happy when we have a few weeks to spend abroad or to visit our families in the villages. Is that all we want? In this way, I believe, not possible even to feel that you live. That you are alive, curious, intelligent, smart, charming individual.

Trust yourself. Trust your power of heart and mind. There is nobody else who will tell you what to do. Because they don’t know. You can show to other people any of your side, but only you know what you truly feel, what you really want and what is deep in your heart. People are very individual and different. We want different things. And our problem is that we want to recruit our ideology for others. For example, if I love basketball, I want my friends to love it too. If I want to work inthe office, I am shocked why my friend want to travel around the word. But it is not right, you have to trust yourself in every step you are making and every breath you are taking.

No one knows better what you need than you, because no one feels what you feel. Trust yourself and believe your power. If you want to start to write a BLOG, do it. If you want to go to the gym, do it. If you want to date this guy, who is bad in the opinion of others, do it. Nobody have right to judge your choices. If you feel that you don‘t belong where you are, don‘t be there. If you want to be a singer, stick it. Be happy by following your heart and your own power of mind. Think about it, what is the worst thing that can happen by following yourself? People, who loves you, will always support you no matter what you will do and where you will be.

Don‘t be afraid to make a change. If you don‘t like your life, change it. You won‘t live again.

  1. A positive view of life. Yes, one must trust themselves, but I add the assumption that one has the background and knowledge to make the decision. For instance, trusting the knowledge you have that happens to be incorrect isn’t a good thing. Or trusting one’s actions which are actually selfish without regards to others.

This line touched me the most: “And our problem is that we want to recruit our ideology for others.” To me, this explains many of the world’s problems. Thanks for the thoughtful post and good luck with your new blog!

    1. I agree, of course, but all of us have the same options to get these knowledge. If its about facts, knowledge can be incorrect, but if its about values, feelings and wishes, what right we have to judge? im not speaking about injustice or bad things in general. If you hurt someone or if you make your soul dirty by your decisions, of course, this is not right. Maybe you have to be mature enough to start to follow yourself…

      1. Good points of clarification … and yes, we humans are simply too judgmental. As I like to say, there is a difference between agree-disagree and right-wrong. There have been times (in a discussion) when someone says I’m wrong, to which is sternly lean forward to say, “We may disagree, but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong.”

  2. This reminds me of the quote by Satish Kumar:
“I’m not interested in any outcome. I’m not interested in any achievement. I’m not trying to get somewhere. I’m not trying to succeed in my life. My life is not about success. My life is about self-realization and fulfillment. And if we seek fulfilment, then we have no stress. If we seek success, we will have stress.”

I myself have reached at a point where all this success has become meaningless because I’ve realized that in the end this is not what matters. Thanks for sharing. Your words have given me a better understanding of my situation.

    Happy New Year!

  3. I think success is just a word, success is not equal to success. I mean fulfillment is success, sometimes even little stress can be called as success. For example I think it is good to be excited, to wait to something, to be impatient. But yeah, in the end you understand how temporary it was.

Happy New Year, Sunil. And thanks a lot for your comment!

  4. Nice to meet u – and may I chime in on the comments? I really like that first point about incorrect stuff- and want to add that sometimes we “only” truly grow when we have others help us – we can have myopic vision with things and sometimes people make us stronger – not always – but this is not black and white – but two stories come to mind – one was a power lawyer who left a high paying job to do theatre – he knew what he wanted and was unfulfilled until he was doing his real calling!
And the other story relates to your and sunil’s comment – about success when I heard Bonnie rait in an interview In early 90s – someone asked how she felt now that she was successful – and she said – (something like this) you mean how do I feel now that I have made some money from my music / feels real good – but I was successful before this because I was doing what love with music –

and I think what I take from this is the call to feel more self – empowered and to go with your gut while celebrating your wiring and your wants – right?

  5. It is, all of this so true. And of course by putting down all these mind on paper (or on word page) i just try to motivate myself, not somebody. And to find who i am and where i do belong. I believe everybody have treir form of expression, this is just my way. People are so busy with their problems and not always they find time for listening. Or they are interested in funny stories, you know. And also i do believe other people if they even know you so much and support you absolutely, they can’t say and know what you need, they just can give a good advise.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. You read people good!

  6. This post spoke to me a lot. “How to find something, if you even don’tknow what you are looking for? Trust yourself.” I can relate to this post a lot as a struggling writer juggling a day job, and what others expect of me. More precisely, what my parents expect of me and what career path I should follow. While I know writing is sort of a side thing for me, I honestly don’t know where I want to head in my career.

However, I’ve always felt deep down that I’m a free spirit. Deep down I’ve always felt that I’m not meant to be working where I’m currently working…and little by little plotting my way out of here. Sometimes, in order to trust ourselves, we have to take baby steps in the right direction. Trust takes time to earn. The more we learn to accept who we are and what we are good at and most importantly what we love doing, then we learn how to trust ourselves.

  7. Wholly… Is this comment about me or you? Its everything i am feeling right now. I am happy to know that there are more people who feel this way. As you say, little by little, step by step. And we will find what we are looking for. I am sure about it. Thank you for your comment! And it is nice to meet you, Mabel.
